Originally opened in 1966 as a college club just
off the campus of Case Western Reserve University, The Agora moved to its second
location on East 24th in 1967. There, the club developed a reputation for
playing both the top local talent (such as the James Gang, the Raspberries and
Glass Harp), and up-and-coming touring acts such as Bruce Springsteen, The
Police, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, Boston, the Cars, Pat Benatar, U2 and REM (to
name a few). Following a fire in 1984, the Agora moved to it’s current
location at 5000 Euclid Avenue, where it has continued to feature top talent
such as Alice in Chains, Crosby Stills and Nash, Green Day, Liz Phair, Robert
Cray, Insane Clown Posse, Mushroomhead and Megadeth.
Following the New Year’s Eve concert, the Agora will celebrate it’s
anniversary throughout the year with monthly “flashback”
concerts featuring top-name bands that have been associated with it’s
history, while continuing to present it’s regular schedule of currently hot
artists. The club will also feature special events, promotions, contests and
displays all year long, including the opportunity to
watch and listen to past Agora shows on audio visual stations. Look for announcements of other events coming up
shortly.
